Personal Pages: Making and Filling Up Your Own Books (Ages 13-17)

  • Dates: Saturday, April 2, 9, 16 and 30 (4 Weeks), 1:00-4:00pm
  • Tuition: $45 plus supplies
  • Instructor: Sandra Haynes
In this class, using a few simple sewn and folded bookbinding techniques, you will make your own book to be used as a journal, diary, sketchbook, planner or all of these at once. Then we will look at examples of mixed media journaling, and how using memorabilia, drawing, and text can be combined to tell your own story…

…which you NEVER have to show anyone else unless you want to. Throughout the class, we will talk about how diaries are a personal art making practice and the advantages of having some analog privacy in our digital world. We will also talk about diaries as a tool for planning, creative (messy) exploration, and using some writing tricks for getting thoughts out even when everything seems all mixed up.
