Introduction to Color (Watercolor) – Not Being Offered in Fall 2024

  • Dates: Wednesday, 1:00-3:00pm, 10 Weeks
  • Tuition: $90
  • Instructor: Margot Glass

Description

This class is an opportunity to learn about color basics and to think about how we can use color to express such themes as temperature, mood, visual perception, compositional balance through understanding  value, and the ways in which artists, designers and scientists have used color in their work. Each week we will examine a topic related to color followed by a painting exercise in the spirit of exploration and fun, including color mixing, traditional landscape and still life painting, and abstraction, to name a few.

All levels of painting ability welcome, from beginner to experienced; perfect painting/drawing skills are not necessary for our work together. Our painting exercises will be about discovery and play with color to better understand the basic principles of color in perception and art through direct experience. Although watercolor is highly recommended for the course for practical reasons, students may work instead using acrylic, oil or gouache if they prefer.
