This class covers the basic techniques used by botanical illustrators and painters to achieve realistic, accurate, and aesthetically pleasing botanical art. An introduction to the history of botanical art and illustration will acquaint students with the background from which they will create their first botanical painting. Accurate observation and drawing from specimens is emphasized. Step-by-step techniques are introduced and demonstrated by the instructor. Students then practice the techniques, including the “dry brush” technique which allows a painter to achieve detailed finished painting!

Books from the instructor’s collection and examples of her work will help students to understand and appreciate this art form.

This has become known as the Carrot Class!
