Beginning Sewing & Alterations – Section 1

Nancy will build your sewing skills, from learning to use a sewing machine to the essentials of garment construction. Whether you have sewed before or never used a sewing machine, this class will build your skills and confidence for whatever projects you wish to tackle.

Topics covered will include:

  • Operating a sewing machine, including the use of basic stitches and presser feet
  • Using commercial patterns
  • Proper measuring, marking and cutting
  • Various seams and seam finishes
  • Fabric selection
  • Basic alterations

Students in this class must complete at least one of the introductory projects before moving on to personal projects (with the instructor’s approval). Along with teaching basic skills, Nancy will demonstrate how far those skills can take you!
